Gianluca Pighi and Massimo Paramour, the former based in Italy, the latter in England, are still young but certainly no newcomers when it comes down to creating inspiring and exciting house music.
Obsessed by “quality above all” (hence, the word “mint”), the second release in the Mint Condition Records catalogue is a long and multi-faceted journey. If “Hymn” can be seen as a smooth banger for the cognoscenti, “Malathet”, in its many different version, is a different beast entirely (check the Middle East feel of the “Original Mix”). Both tracks show a distinctive live feel as many of the instruments (percussions, sitars, synths) have been played live in studio. While the “Main Mix” of “Hymn” is a remarkable “deep-tech” monster, the “Epic Version” is a tripped-out avalanche of spiritual/deep/afro vibes.
When Robert Owens first heard the instrumental version of “Hymn”, he instinctively came up with some heartfelt, gospel-tinged, lyrics. No wonder “together we conquer all, divided we fall”, in its sheer simplicity and immediacy, has already become a fierce dancefloor motto.
